Playing the Expert Game
Bach, J. (1999). Playing the Expert Game. Computer, 32, 99–101. https://doi.org/10.1109/MC.1999.10096
My brother Jon and I developed this article from a conversation about how he developed his technical skills at Microsoft. The basic idea is this: if you can find people to help you on the job and you make them feel good about helping you, that can drive learning better than reading or taking classes. If you are good enough at it, you may be treated as an expert even though you aren't one.
